DIY Coffe Scrub: 2 RECIPES FOR THE FACE AND BODY

Hi everybody! As I mentioned earlier in my articles about a sustainable bathroom and zero waste beauty , I am currently downsizing my beauty stash .

Not that I will never buy beauty products again, but I would like (at least this month) to cut down on using them.

And also being creative and making my own DIY beauty products! Today I have two DIY coffee scrub recipes .

One intended for the body and the other for the face.

DIY COFFEE SCRUB

I came up with the idea of doing something with coffee when, for the millionth time in my life, I threw the coffee grounds in the trash.

What a shame,” I thought, while I tipped the filter with coffee grounds. “Maybe next time I should do it differently.”

I then delved into the topic of coffee grounds, and really, a world opened up to me.

What you can not do with coffee grounds! Grandma knows what to do.

I could dedicate a whole blog to it, so maybe I will do that too.

But first things first. Today we are talking about a DIY Coffee Scrub.

Not one, but two recipes that are terribly simple. And the great thing is: chances are that you already have all the necessary ingredients at home.

Provided you are a coffee drinker, of course. And likes plants a bit.

RECIPE: DIY COFFEE SCRUB FOR THE BODY

You will need:

  • – A glass jar
  • – 2 tablespoons of coffee (you can use both cooled coffee grounds and regular ground coffee)
  • – 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • – 1 tablespoon of oil (I used olive oil)
  • – Possibly some aloe vera gel (optional)

Stir the ingredients well. Feel free to add a little extra coffee or oil if you want the scrub thicker or more liquid.

Use the body scrub immediately, especially when you use coffee grounds, because you can’t keep them for long.

The caffeine in coffee is said to have a beneficial effect on cellulite and together with sugar and oil you ensure clean, smooth and soft skin!

If you still wonder whether showering with coffee grounds becomes one big mess? No, that was (at least with me) very easy.

You simply rinse it away and you don’t have to worry about the drain getting clogged or anything.

RECIPE: DIY COFFEE SCRUB FOR THE FACE

You will need:

  • – 1 tablespoon of coffee grounds (softer on the skin than ground coffee)
  • – 1 tablespoon of fresh aloe vera gel (from about two stems)
  • – 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil (I used olive oil)

Stir everything well and apply on a cleansed face. Use immediately, because you cannot save this.

I first applied the scrub to my face as a kind of mask and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then I only started exfoliating during rinsing.

My skin smooth and soft after use. Not dry or tight, but healthy and radiant. I was really pleasantly surprised by the effect of this!

HOW DO YOU GET ALOE VERA GEL?

A while ago I bought an aloe vera plant at the Ikea for only 2.50 euros.

The stems of the aloe vera plant contain a gel, which you can scrape out. Aloe vera gel is super caring for the skin.

It is moisturising, calming and it repairs wounds and skin irritation.

AND NOW? ONLY ON THE DIY COFFEE SCRUB?

Ha, well I have to say: I am pleasantly surprised by the effect of these scrubs. Both the body scrub and facial scrub work fine.

The recipes are low-budget, not tested on animals, vegan and also work well.

I cannot yet judge whether it actually has an effect on cellulite.

I like to mess around with DIY beauty products.

And it is not ‘necessary’ to spend a lot of money on scrubs, as it turns out.

You can easily make them yourself with products that you have in your own kitchen cupboard
